FAQs
What is a PCR test?
PCR tests have been used to detect viruses for decades. PCRs are preferred by healthcare professionals because they detect a virus’ genetic materials at the earliest point of infection – even among people who have been exposed to COVID-19, Flu A+B, or RSV but show no symptoms (known as asymptomatic).
Progressive Diagnostics’ PCR test has a sensitivity (true positive rate) of 98% and a specificity (true negative rate) of 99%. Tests are administered at our collection centers throughout Fairfield County with results delivered on the same day.
Who should take a PCR test?
You should get a PCR test if you have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, Flu A+B, or RSV; or have symptoms like fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat.
Early detection is important, especially if you are considered to have higher health risks like a heart or respiratory condition, cancer, chronic kidney or liver disease, HIV, dementia, obesity, or diabetes.
You should get a PCR test if you are undergoing certain medical procedures, like surgery.
Please consult your healthcare provider if you think you may be in a high-risk category or are planning a medical procedure.
When will I know if I have COVID-19, Flu A+B or RSV?
Progressive Diagnostics delivers same-day results for all our PCR tests for COVID-19, Flu A+B, and RSV. However, samples that are collected on Saturday or Sunday are reported on Monday. Schedule your test online or walk-in to one of our testing centers throughout Fairfield County. Your test results will be posted in your secure patient portal.
